Following the heat waves that took over the region in August and September, causing wildfires and issues with ash. Growers of this area are now facing a new threat to the yield of their crops.

It appears soil-borne diseases and viruses are consistently affecting lettuce crops through out the Salinas region. While Green leaf has been the least affected, yields continue to be down between 20% and 50% for some iceberg and romaine lettuce crops.
